Calling all French Bloggers to Join the EWBC at VinoCamp!

Although the co-organizers of the EWBC are located just above France in London, and just south of France in Spain, we tend to overlook some of our most important bloggers situated just between us: the French. Serious, passionate, savvy and eager to communicate their vinous thoughts, we’re excited to virtually head to Paris and participate in VinoCamp!

What is VinoCamp?

VinoCamp is essentially an extension of Bar Camp, a spontaneous and international network of user-generated technology conferences. Also known as “unconferences” they are geared towards people passionate to exchange ideas as to how they can evolve their industry, but in a more relaxed and informal setting.

VinoCamp has taken that very same model and merged technology with wine. Tomorrow, Saturday, July 10, 2010, wine and tech geeks from around the world will be meeting at La Cantine in Paris. The objective is, essentially, not to have an objective. Though there are several speakers from the tech and wine world, both attending and skyping in, to pitch their individual projects, what will actually be debated and discussed is up for grabs – which is what makes the unconference model so unpredictable and exciting!

How is the EWBC Participating at VinoCamp?

At 6:30pm, Parisian time, our very own Robert McIntosh will be skyping into La Cantine to make a heartfelt pitch as to why each and every one of the attendees should join us in Vienna this fall. Robert has told us that he’ll courageously put his best foot forward and give his speech in French, though we’re not entirely sure if he won’t be speaking in English with his best French accent

For those of you who were not able to join us last year in La Rioja, Spain, at the very first Wine Blogger Conference in the world, we felt it might be interesting for you to at least get a sense of who was there, some of the debates that were had, and what the overall feeling was European Wine Bloggers Conference of the conference itself. Therefore, we’ve put together a list of highlights. However, if you feel as if we’ve overlooked a key event, site or post, please don’t hesitate to chime in and let us know, because it’s the memories of the wonderful people, the great conversations, the delicious wine and food, and the awe inspiring sites, which carry with us well into the future.

Announcing: 2009 European Wine Blogger Conference in Lisbon, Portugal!

We’re back!!! Despite a rather long siesta, and a few little hiccups in the planning process, we are very excited to announce the 2009 European Wine Blogger Conference!

The second edition of the European Wine Bloggers Conference (EWBC) will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, between the 30th of October to the 1st of November 2009. Bringing together bloggers of all backgrounds including: winemakers, wine writers, marketers, retailers and distributors from around the world, this year’s conference will address, “The Future of the Social Wine Brand”.

The 2008 conference, in La Rioja, Spain, was the first international event for Wine Bloggers and the first of a growing series of conferences and events under the “Wine Bloggers Conference” banner. In addition to the annual European event, there is also an annual US event based in California and plans to include a series of local events beginning in 2009 and 2010. Our goal is to create a network of wine bloggers across the globe to spread information, broaden the culture of wine, improve industry standards, and above all else, create a physical space to communicate and share ideas.

The Social Wine Brand, is the sum of interactions and relationships created by a wine brand through social media platforms in order to improve its overall sales. Bloggers are key to this process and the EWBC will bring together bloggers, with different roles to play, to learn from each other – wineries who are creating the brands, reviewers who are evaluating and sharing them, and retailers who are delivering the brands to the customer and generating the revenue in this value chain.

The 2009 European Wine Bloggers Conference programme will include several “keynote” sessions addressing topical subjects for all online wine communicators, as well as several streams of smaller group sessions to generate and nurture some practical discussions.

The 100 wine bloggers expected at the EWBC 2009 will not only attend a wide range of educational sessions, but also visit several key wineries in and around Lisbon, in addition to a host of traditional Portuguese meals. The entire event will provide ample opportunity for bloggers to experience the food, wine and culture of Portugal, all while discussing issues pertinent to the future of the social wine brand.
