Wow, it’s hard to believe that after 1 year of planning and prep that we are finally sitting here in Brescia drinking Franciacorta bubbles. Feels good to have so many friends here to hang out with and new friends to meet. 35 countries worth of bloggers, media and press coming together to talk about story telling and wine.

But since we are in the middle of the madness, I just want to let you all know that we will be doing a few things so that if you are not here you can still join in.

Follow us on Twitter with the hashtag: #ewbc – though we warn you that if you don’t have any wine while you’re watching, you may be mighty thirsty

Follow us from time to time on the live stream: http://bit.ly/EWBC2011live

We’ll be also uploading videos on Vimeo: http://vimeo.com/vrazon

But for now, we’re going to get back to our bubbles!

Come back here later this week and hopefully we’ll have some more info for you about the conference.

Cheers from Italy!

Ryan, Gabriella, Robert

With the European Wine Bloggers Conference fast approaching, and the video workshop on Saturday filling up, our videographer Paolo Casalis wanted to dispel a few myths about making videos. For Paolo, a video can be many things; hence why he wanted to offer 4 quick bits of advice as to what you can learn from his workshop! Don’t be afraid of the moving picture, embrace it!

You don’t have to be afraid of video, because….

I’m proof that everybody can make videos: I’m an architect by trade and used a video camera for the 1st time in my life in March 2008 when I was already 31 years old!! Twelve months later, my first documentary movie (over 4,000 sold copies up to now) was out. It’s not a question of technique, it’s a question of ideas and stories.

the goal is to have fun at my EWBC Video Workshop, not make a full length feature film. We will talk about making a short clip and how to tell an effective story. Put another way, how do you write a blog post, not an entire book. Any one of you can make it, really!

it’s not a question of money, you don’t need expensive cameras or post-production tools. To demonstrate it, I will bring and use a little camera like the one in the photo. Though you can even use your phone!

video editing will demonstrate you how to produce a quality clip even with a single shot, without any editing.

In conclusion, I assure you that taking a good photo is even more complicated than making a great video (this is my second personal problem: I’m not great at taking good photographs!). So, please don’t be intimidated by video and join me at the video workshop!

See you soon,

Paolo

However, as organizers of the EWBC, we consistently struggle in finding balance in the content we offer, the wines we taste and the time we’re allotted to play with in one weekend.

For this reason, we want to offer a new way to introduce yourself. If you have a product, project or service that you want highlighted, create a short video about it.

The videos need to be uploaded to Vimeo, Youtube, and a link be sent to us at: contact@vrazon.com. As we receive them, we’ll begin publishing the videos right here at the European Wine Bloggers Conference website. Comments enabled, these videos can help foster discussions about who you are and what you do, making your first meeting in Brescia a more dynamic one.

Our suggestion: keep it fun and keep it brief. You can say a lot in 2 minutes, but we understand you maybe need more time to get it right. We will accept videos up to 10 minutes maximum – but keep it engaging. And don’t forget to put your name, website and email in the video. This is your chance to sell yourself, your product, or better yet, to stick with the theme of it all, your story.

A big bonus is that anyone who submits a video will also get to take a place on our “participant table” during registration time on Friday. You can leave a flyer, a business card, or even hang out to answer questions. You even get a special badge!
